Commissioned by University College Dublin to mark the Belfield 50 milestone, Conveying Space by Daniel Holfeld reflects on Ireland’s cultural renewal and national identity. UCD, long a symbol of intellectual and civic independence, becomes both subject and metaphor—its architecture embodying the nation’s evolving aspirations.
In an intimate and powerful contemplation, Daniel Holfeld’s images provide access to a new look at the built legacy of University College Dublin; deconstructing the elemental components of architecture, transforming buildings to change the way we think about the structures themselves.
Through carefully composed, atmospheric imagery, Holfeld reinterprets UCD’s campus as a living archive of Ireland’s progress. By isolating architectural fragments—steps, façades, lampposts—he transforms functional structures into abstract compositions that transcend their utilitarian purpose. Concrete, glass, and landscape become visual expressions of continuity and change, where geometry and light echo Ireland’s dynamic spirit.
Celebrated internationally, Conveying Space has received accolades from the Architecture Photography MasterPrize, Tokyo International Foto Awards, PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris Awards, The International Photography Awards, MonoVisions Black and White Photography Awards, and the Budapest International Foto Awards.
